Can you believe it? Word on the street is that famed virus-hunter and acclaimed ME/CFS researcher Dr. Ian Lipkin had his grant application to NIH turned down because one of the reviewers thinks ME/CFS is a psychological illness! This in 2014!
With NIH funding for research into this illness at a paltry $5 million (compared with $112 million for Multiple Sclerosis, with only 40% of the number of patients as ME/CFS), we know we can't count on the government to fully fund the science we need to understand this illness and develop the treatments we need. Once again, we are going to have to do it ourselves. That's the bad news. The good news is, there are so many of us, if each of us could give even a little (and those who can, give a little more) we could fund some serious research.
