N.J. CFS Assn. Fall Conference PDF Print E-mail

The New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association announces its Fall Conference, co-sponsored with the Monmouth Medical Center, ME/CFS: New Perspectives in Research, Advocacy, Education and Disability. The conference will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel Conference Center, Eatontown, New Jersey. Speakers include Judy A. AABB's recommendation on CFIDS/ME and blood donation PDF Print E-mail

The American Association of Blood Banking (AABB), on June 18, 2010, issued a Bulletin to its member blood collectors requesting that CFIDS/ME patients be actively discouraged from donating blood because of the "risk of transmission of XMRV" (Xenotropic Murine-Related Virus). In October, 2009 the Journal Science published a study which presented evidence of an association of XMRV with CFIDS/ME. In making this recommendation, the AABB is concerned about the safety of the U.S. blood supply.  Read the AABB press release.

The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Advisory Committee (CFSAC), representing a number of major federal health agencies, provided study updates and new recommendations at a one-day meeting on May 10, 2010.  This was also an opportunity to become acquainted with Dr. Elizabeth Unger, the new Acting Chief of the Chronic Viral Diseases Branch (CVDB), at the CDC.
